Project: Go Ahead

Reducing the Need for Drug Therapy in Youngsters Identified as ADD/ADHD by Coaching Them in Self-Management of Their Conative Abilities

Kicking off in early 2007 will be a newly developed program geared at helping youngsters labeled with ADD or ADHD self-manage their behaviors using their innate strengths.  The program, Project: Go Ahead, will provide neighborhood-based programs for ADD/ADHD labeled youngsters with individually appropriate, self-managed solutions with will reduce disruptive behaviors and increase achievements through productive use of their innate conative strengths.  This will provide Maricopa County families with positive, non-chemical, low-cost, high impact methodologies that youngsters use to decrease their own disruptive behaviors and increase their purposeful achievements.

Also benefiting from the program will be medical, social services, and educations professionals exposed to the program and educated on the efficacy of helping youngsters use their diverse, innate drives (conative traits) productively.  In addition, special coaches will be selected and trained from interested applicants to work directly with the youngsters and will become experts on the program.

Kansas Project: Conative Awareness

The Center for Conative Abilities is in its third year with a similar program which serves as a model for Project: Go Ahead.  Teamed with the Kansas State Department of Education, the project's mission of providing statewide educator awareness of innate individual student learning needs and developing leadership within school districts to educate their communities on conative strengths has been and continues to be a great success.
